"They Will Eat Your Cat" by Alex Feldvebel
MARCH 2026

They Will Eat Your Cat
In Honor of Those Who Protest in Minneapolis
Nothing is more fearsome
Than the enemy
Who does not exist.
Conjured in the free play
Of nonbeing.
Capable therefore of anything.
To outmatch this ethereal foe
The government has given guns
To monkeys in clown suits
And sent them to Minneapolis
Where a woman
Whose method was poetry
And kindness
Has been shot dead
And a man
Who eased the war veteran
Back into bed
Has been shot dead.
So much has happened.
The long beard of history
Is dripping with blood.
Avert your eyes
And you are yet
A part of it.
Attend closely
With an unguarded heart
And see what that will start.
